All websites require hosting space on the internet in order for them to be accessible. They also need a web address, known as a domain name (.org, .co.uk, .com etc). If you don’t already have this, we’ll work out the perfect address for your website, then we’ll organise and manage all of this for you.
If you do not have one of these, nobody will be able to see your website, it's as simple as that. This is your web address (www.) and is what potential clients and customers will click on/type in to access your website.
All you have to do is come up with an appropriate web address for your company and I will obtain this for you. There are hundreds of domains available to choose from as well such as...
These typically cost £10-15 per year.
Every website requires hosting space. This acts as a digital plot of land where your website is stored.
If you don't already have this set up I will arrange all of this for you as a part of the web design service to ensure that your website hosting is fast and reliable.
I will also deal with any ongoing maintenance that is needed.
Costs vary depending on the size of your website and how much space you will need to host it but this is generally charged at a yearly rate.
Your website may also benefit from having an SSL Certificate that allows a secure connection for visitors to your website.
SSL stands for 'Secure Sockets Layer' but in simple terms, if you have one it tells your customers that they can browse your website safely and submit information through your website securely.
If you do not have an SSL certificate on your website any data that your customers submit through your website could be vulnerable to hackers. Anyone who browses your website will be able to detect if it has been secured.
If you have an SSL certificate you will notice a green padlock in the address bar and your website address will start with 'https'.
If your website has not been secured your customers will instead see a notification in the address bar that states the website is not secure and the website address will begin 'http'.
This is especially needed whenever there is any sensitive information transmitted through the website such as passwords, email addresses, credit card details etc. It encrypts all the data sent between the viewer’s browser and your web server. It is strongly recommended that any site which uses a login system or a contact form has one of these and essential for websites that use an ecommerce platform.
Having an SSL Certificate is also good for search engine optimisation. From 2017 onwards Google will use this as a determining factor when deciding on how to rank websites in search engine results. Those with an SSL certificate will rank higher.
They also add a layer of trust and credibility to your site. It will be re-assuring for site visitors to see a green 'secure' tab in the address bar as opposed to 'non secure'.
